Winter brings all sorts of driving headaches such as  snow, fog , freezing rain and slush-melted ice on road  which all make the roads more hazardous . To handle the hassle of winter driving .

  • Wear Seat Belt: First of all, buckle up. Basic car safety encourages to use of seat belts and car seats at all times. They’re one of your best defense in a crash. And it’s the law. Also it’s good practice to wear seat belts .
  • Ensure good visibility:In Winter fog reduces visibility of on the road .  Clear all snow and ice from your car before you start driving.
  • Use gentle movements when accelerating and turning because fast or big movements on snow or ice can lead to skidding. In Winter always start driving gradually, drive at steady speeds , accelerate slightly
  • If you start skidding, remove your foot from the accelerator or brake : Always  steer in the direction of the skid. Once steady, straighten the wheel and proceed further .
  • Always be extra caution in areas that ice up quickly, especially intersections, shaded areas, bridges and overpasses.
  • Always check the weather report ;Get in the habit of regularly checking weather reports on TV or online so you can prepare for bad weather.
  • Always Keep an emergency kit in the trunk of your car – including blankets, a first aid kit and jumper cables.
  • Always make sure your cell phone is fully charged and that your car always has a full tank of fuel.
  • Set the headlights on low beam : It is very difficult  to see  on a foggy day when the visibility is already very low. Setting the headlights on low beam can help  with this situation . Using headlights on high-beam is inadvisable because the fog  reflects this light back, blurs  the driver’s vision.
  • Reduce your speed : Since in winter visibility is so poor, it can get difficult to see  your surroundings or react quickly enough to real-time road conditions if you are speeding. So it is advisable to drive slow .
  • Listen for the traffic : In winter  foggy conditions while driving  ears  can be the greatest asset  .  Your visibility may be impaired during dense fog, the sounds of tyres and horns can help you  estimate the distance from unseen vehicles on road while driving .
  • Always stick to your lane : With low visibility while driving through fog, it is very difficult to figure out when other car  is switching from one lanes to other , which means that other drivers can often get shocked  and this could lead to collisions.Winter Driving Tips
  • keep your windows clear : Try and keep your vision as clear as possible to avoid any mishap . Clean your windscreen  & windows on the inside and the outside to view things clearly .
  • Turn on your heater : The fog outside  causes cabin air to condense to build up on the inside of the vehicle, hampering driver’s vision even more. This can  be cleared by turning the car heater on .
  • Do not overtake : In winter , always try to avoid doing overtakes . In foggy conditions , always maintain slow speed & drive patiently . Overtaking may distract other drivers .
  • Always maintain a good distance between vehicles : Keep safe distance between you & vehicle in front of you . Do not tailgate .
